Download a backup
As Owner, see the server's backups, create one now, download an encrypted copy safely and delete backups you no longer need.
Who can use this
OwnerRequirements
None beyond the role
Your Dromix server backs up its database every night and before every update. As the Owner, you can also download a copy, for example to keep one outside the server.
A backup contains all of your company's data and the server's secret settings, including passwords and API keys. Download it only to a device you trust and keep it safe. Every download and deletion is logged in the audit log.
See the backups
Open Company admin → System → Backups. Only the Owner sees this page. The list shows each backup's Date, Type (Nightly, Manual or Before update), Size and Checksum. Checksum OK means the file is intact.
To make one immediately, select Create backup now. It appears in the list when it is finished; select Refresh to update the list.
Download a backup
- Select Download next to the backup.
- Enter Your password and, if you use two-step verification, your Authenticator code.
- Leave Encrypt the download on (recommended) and choose an Encryption password of at least 12 characters. Enter it again in Repeat encryption password.
- Select Continue. Dromix prepares the file on the server.
- When it says Ready, select Download.
The download link works once and expires after 5 minutes.
The encryption password is not stored anywhere. Without it nobody, not even Dromix support, can open the file. Keep the password apart from the file.
If you turn encryption off, tick I understand the file will not be encrypted and I will store it somewhere safe. to continue.
Delete a backup
- Select Delete next to the backup.
- Check the date, type and size in Delete this backup?.
- Enter Your password and your Authenticator code.
- Select Delete backup.
The backup is removed from the server for good, so download a copy first if you might need it. Every deletion is logged in the audit log with who deleted which backup, its size and when.
The newest backup is always kept, so its Delete button is greyed out. After an update, the backup that the update would roll back to is kept too. Deleting needs two-step verification: if you have not turned it on, open Security first.
If Delete is missing, the server still runs the older backup service; it is installed with the next full update.
Open the file later
After the download, Dromix shows the exact command to decrypt the file on macOS, Linux or Git Bash on Windows, and the SHA-256 of the file so you can check it. Copy both and keep them with your notes.
When downloads are not available
Backup download is not set up on this server means the service that prepares downloads is not installed yet. It is installed with the next full update, or Dromix support (support@dromix.net) can enable it. The nightly backups still run.
